South West Ireland Golf Courses
Lahinch Golf Course
The stunning links course overlooks Lahinch beach on the western coast of Ireland in Clare. There has been a golf course here over 125 years and has had many golf course designers add their tweaks. Lahinch Golf course was home to the Irish Open in 2019. A stunning course is not for the faint hearted on a windy day (bring plenty of golf balls!).
The natural links terrain and sand dunes provide a challenging test to any golfer. Some amazing tee shots facing into the Wild Atlantic Sea. It’s a supremely natural course and one where every shot in the bag will be tested. The fairways run through huge grass-covered dunes to fast greens with devilish run-offs. There’s a great mix of holes, some asking for raw power, others for a more subtle approach.
Lahinch golf course is highly recommend and enjoyed on our many golf trips.
Waterville Golf Course
Golf at Waterville is a mystical experience – the beauty of classic links land surrounded by the sea yet forever challenged and shaped by the elements. More than 100 years old, Waterville is rated among the top five courses in Ireland and the top 20 links courses in the world.
The course was a noted training venue for the British Open by four past champions and combines sand dunes, gorse and native grasses, firm fairways, sod-faced bunkers and subtle putting surfaces all intertwined by the ever-changing weather.
Waterville Golf Links is located on the south west coast on the Ring of Kerry. The course remains open all year round, weather permitting.
